I have finally made the leap from socks and shoes to sandals and I’m not going back!
It’s been a hot minute since my last blog:) This past winter was full of events and news I want to share.
When I’m not teaching classes I’m a full time gold and silversmith specializing in Norwegian filigree inspired jewelry. This year was the kickoff for my first solo jewelry exhibition hosted by the Nordic Center in Duluth, MN titled “Hand of the Huldra”. This show features jewelry and adornment inspired by the Scandinavian myth of the forest huldra, a beautiful woman with a cow tail who would charm humans into living life forever inside a magic mountain. Many thanks to the mighty Alison Aune for getting my show featured on Minnesota Art Hounds! Extra special thanks go out to photographer/ videographer extraodinaire Aleksander Nordaas for allowing me the use of images from his beautiful “Huldra” book. This show runs from March 1st – April 27th. Check it out if you are in the area and stay tuned for a soon to be released video that features me taking you on a tour of the exhibition! In other news-
I’m going local! Check out these new class offerings in the next two months! Chatfield Center for the Arts in Chatfield, MN will host my Celtic Inspired Bracelet Class May 11. Treat your mom to my Mother’s Day Sámi Inspired Four Braid Color Band Bracelet Class May 12 at Sylvan Brewery in Lanesboro, MN. Call 507-467-4677 to register. Since we’re coming up on Syttende Mai I’ll also be hosting a Beginning Sámi Inspired Bracelet class at Norway House in Minneapolis so brush off your bunad and join in the festivities May 17-18.
We also hosted our first complete online class through saamisupplies.com and will be adding more offerings in the coming months. Several classes on our roster will be featured as complete products where you can purchase the class as a download and complete your project at your own pace. Our Viking Snake Braid Bracelet Class will be out in this format in the next few weeks and I’m busy putting together more projects as we speak….did someone say “how about a necklace project?”……….!
